Our nut butters ....
Where do the nuts and seeds come from ?
- That is a difficult question to answer, it mostly depends on the time of the year, what nuts are in season and where. We have a supplier that imports our nuts from all over the world, South America, Italy, China and the United States to name a few. They come to us in trucks, several hundred pounds at a time.
What happens when the nuts and seeds arrive at Yum Foods Limited ?
- They are spread on large baking sheets. These sheets are placed in a rather large propane oven. The nuts are roasted until they are golden brown in appearance. The nuts are then cooled and grinded. The grinder looks like a mixer with a very big bowl. Instead of a whisk there are a series of vertical blades that ground the nuts to the consistency you find when you open a jar of our nut or seed butters. The butters are then dispensed into glass jars. The jars are appropriately labeled and pack in boxes for shipping.
How long can I keep nut and seed butters ?
- The butters will last about 8 months, more if you refrigerate them !
Are there any additives in our nut and seed butters ?
- No, our all natural NutSmith Nut Butters and our Naturally Nutty Certified Organic Butters have only nuts and nothing else, no added sugar, no added salt, no added fat.
Why when you open the nut butter is the oil on top ?
- This separation is a natural condition, use a spoon to stir the oil back into the butters when you get home. Refrigeration will help prevent this separation. Commercial grade nut butters do not separate as hydrogenated fat is added to prevent this separation.
